OPEN CALL: The Star of Zion Seeks Zionites Serving and Running for Public Office

Posted

For generations, members of The A.M.E. Zion Church have carried their commitment to justice, freedom, equality, and service beyond the walls of the church and into the public square.

This October, The Star of Zion will continue that tradition with a special program focused on Social Justice, Public Service, and Civic Leadership, bringing together voices from across Zion to discuss some of the critical issues facing our communities.

As we prepare for this conversation and the November 2026 election, we are issuing an open call to members of The A.M.E. Zion Church who are currently serving in elected public office or who are candidates for elected office in the upcoming November election.

We want to know: Who are the Zionites serving our communities—and who are those answering the call to serve next?

Individuals responding to this open call will be considered for inclusion in The Star of Zion's coverage and upcoming social-justice program. Selected participants may be invited to introduce themselves and their platforms, discuss the communities they seek to represent, and participate in a panel conversation addressing social justice, civic responsibility, public policy, community engagement, and the role people of faith can play in strengthening their communities.

We welcome responses from Zionites seeking or holding office at the local, county, state, and federal levels, regardless of political party affiliation.

Those interested in being considered should submit their name, A.M.E. Zion church and conference, current elected office or office being sought, city and state, brief biography, campaign or public-service website/social media, and preferred contact information.

All submissions must be received by September 27, 2026.

Send submissions to: office@starofzion.org

The purpose of this initiative is to provide a nonpartisan forum for civic engagement, public service, and dialogue. Inclusion in The Star of Zion or participation in the program does not constitute an endorsement of any candidate, campaign, political party, or political organization by The Star of Zion or The A.M.E. Zion Church.

Zion has a long history of raising voices for freedom and justice. Now, we want to hear from the Zionites who are carrying that legacy into public service today.
